Is there a monthly fee to play the game?
Yes. After the end of the free month included with the game, you need a subscription in order to continue playing the game. There are three subscription options: a month-to-month package at $14.99 per month, a three-month plan at $13.99 per month, and a six-month plan at $12.99 per month. The subscription fees for the three-month plan and the six-month plan must be paid in full.
Why isn't World of Warcraft free?
The fee is used to support the costs associated with the high-quality levels of service, support, and ongoing content creation that go into World of Warcraft.

Payment Option - Credit Card

The Subscription options for World of Warcraft (in U.S dollars) are as follows:

1 month: $14.99 *
3 months: $41.97 ($13.99 per month) *
6 months: $77.94 ($12.99 per month) *

* Please note that the 3-month and 6-month subscriptions must be paid in full at the beginning of the billing cycle.

Players in select states around the U.S. have found that their monthly subscription fee is slightly higher than expected. With the rise of many online subscription-based services, several states have begun to apply a tax to services that use such a model, and this tax is an additional cost that players are seeing added onto the base subscription rate.

*To avoid any interruption of service, your subscription is set to renew itself automatically. At the end of each subscription period, your billing will automatically be charged the amount of your selected plan and a new subscription period will be initiated. Your epic quest continues uninterrupted.

Specifically, residents of the following states will be charged this tax:

Illinois
Massachusetts
New Mexico
New York
Texas
Washington

Reactivating / Updating or Cancelling your Subscription

You can modify your subscription to World of Warcraft at any time through your Account Management page.

Updating your Subscription

If you are interested in simply updating the credit card you have listed, select the "Change Subscription" button located under your Billing Information section. Complete the process by manually entering in your updated information. After the credit card has been successfully submitted it will replace the one previously listed on the account and further payments will be processed on the new credit card you have setup.

Reactivating your Subscription

An account is activated immediately on receipt of payment. This payment marks the beginning of your subscription and further charges will automatically occur at the end of each billing cycle. The subscription will not necessarily be processed on the same day of the month as compensation and payment processing times may delay any transactions.

Cancelling your Subscription

Once you successfully verify the account details by logging in, look for the "Cancel Account" link near the bottom of the page. After this process is completed your payment information will be removed from the account to prevent further charges from occurring. You will still be able to login and play for the remainder of the billing cycle for which you have already paid.

What if my credit card is declined?

If your credit card could not be authorized for payment an email is sent to the registered address on the account. This email includes basic information as well as a general result code to notify you of the failed authorization. Your account status will become frozen at that time as well.

The most common reasons for a failed authorization of a credit card include (but are not limited to):

Insufficient funds or holds on funds.

Incorrect or mistyped Verification Code. For Visa, Master Card and Discover the credit card verification code is generally the last set of digits in the numeric string located in the signature field on the back of your card. If you have an older credit card and it does not have a verification code then you should be able to obtain an updated one from your provider.

Because of address verification problems, pre-paid credit cards and "virtual" credit cards will not be accepted by our authorization system.

Any credit card used must be from within the supported North American region (the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand or Malaysia).

Any credit card with a billing address residing outside of this region will be rejected from our system, regardless of your current geographical location.
